Montgomery Nursing and Rehabilitation Center family members Raymond & Sheila Rufus celebrated their 56th year of marriage on Tuesday, February 2nd. To celebrate the happy occasion, MNRC surprised the couple with a decorated cake, beautiful floral arrangement and a balloon bouquet. When asked what their secret to 56 years of marriage was they responded “love of course.” Pictured above are Raymond and Sheila Rufus.
Montgomery Nursing and Rehabilitation Center celebrated Valentines Day in grand style on Wed. Feb. 10th. Crowned King & Queen of Hearts was MNRC family members Fred & Velma Fesser and voted employee with the biggest heart was Activity Director Cindi Paden. After the crowning, residents enjoys entertainment by Dale Hanabargar & Erin O’Toole, cupcakes made in Dietary and decorated by residents in Activities, party punch, and Dairy Queen ice cream donated by one of MNRC’s volunteer Angels. Over 55 residents attended the festivities and a sweet time was had by all.
January 2010 - Montgomery Nursing and Rehabilitation Center announces the graduation of another C.N.A. Class. This group of ladies graduated on January 4, 2010. The staff and residents would like to extend a heartfelt welcome to this group of young ladies and we wish them a long career here at MNRC. January 2010 - Montgomery Nursing and Rehabilitation Center proudly announces the winners who participated in the "Be Active" monthly challenge last quarter. The Activity Department implemented the challenge in September of this year as an incentive for residents to attend activities and have some friendly fun and competition. Activity Director Cindi Paden says the challenge has been a great success with each winner enjoying close to 100 activities in a month. Our MNRC family loves being active! Each winner received a Dairy Queen lunch and a trip to the facility beauty shop compliments of the MNRC Activity Department.
November 2009 - Montgomery Nursing and Rehabilitation Center held a surprise gathering for Marie and John Duff Monday, November 30 to celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary. The Duff's were delighted with a decorated bakery cake, punch, and a beautiful flower arrangement. MNRC's Ramona Tomazzoli played the piano with music from the Duff’s dating era. The Duff's were doubly delighted with a card shower in which they received over 100 cards from congratulatory friends and family.

Alice Schoeneweis celebrated her 102nd birthday at Montgomery Nursing and Rehabilitation Center with a family party last Thursday evening. She was born in Granite City on October 8, 1907. She had three sisters and two brothers. Alice lived in Irving on a farm until her family moved to town when she was fourteen years old. She worked in a canning factory in Irving, Irving School Cook, at a dress factory and the glass factory.
Alice married Hartwell Schoeneweis in 1926 and they were married for 61 years until he passed away in 1987. They became the parents of two daughters, Juanita Titsworth and Alta Bethoche. Alta and her husband became the parents of three daughters, Donna Springer, Connie Harling, and Cindy Simburger. Alice has seven great-grandchildren: Job, Jake, Joel, Jenny, Jessie, Jamie, and Jordan, all who live in Hillsboro.
Alice’s husband ran a garage in Irving until 1966 when they both retired and moved to Florida. They lived there until Hartwell passed away, then Alice moved to Hillsboro. Alice has made Montgomery Nursing and Rehabilitation Center her home for the past ten years.
Montgomery Nursing and Rehabilitation Center held a Christmas drawing at Caryn’s Coffee and Doughnut shop in Hillsboro on Monday, December 21.
Hazel Redman of Irving, Ralph Neihaus of Butler, and Maurice Wygal and Ralph Speiser both of Hillsboro were the lucky winners. Each received a Christmas Joys gift set.
This is the second drawing sponsored by MNRC in appreciation of area businesses that reach out to our home with heart family and the community that supports them. MNRC will hold the next drawing in February.
